DIRECTIONS    If you are waiting at any point, work with the Waiting Activities listed in the right hand column of this page.

1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).       1 minute

2.   Novel discussion:  Your discussion should last at least 15 minutes. You should talk about the whole book.  Make sure everyone speaks/shares and is listened to.

Discuss (don't read your notes, but you can refer to them) the following:            10 minutes
  •  how you would respond to the guiding questions.
  • what are you confused / unsure of?
  • what surprised you - why?
  • which character do you like the best - why?
  • what you think will happen next - why?
  • share the powerful excerpt that you chose and why you chose it
  • any other thoughts about the book
3.     Together, come up with a list of the 10 most important "events" / ideas that tell the story.        10 minutes

4.    By yourself, take a sheet from the stand near the board.  Create a "comic" of at least 7 panels that gets across the most important "events" / ideas that tell the story. Put the information into all panels first - before drawing.           25 minutes
