2.  By yourself and without any resources respond to the questions at this link.           7 minutes

3.  By yourself: Take the identity chart from the table near the cart and complete it.            10 minutes

4. Wait for whole class discussion.              10 minutes

5. Reflection: At the top of your scrap paper document, write a paragraph to explain how you felt, how your life would be different (based on the identity chart activity), and why identity is important.                10 minutes

1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).   1 minute

2.  With your group read the primary source linked here aloud.           10 minutes
  • Discuss what would make people follow the Nazis and Hitler.
3.  With your whole group: look at and think about the conditions Germany faced after World War I, the Nazi political platform (G-Classroom), the history of treating Jewish people poorly (reading),  Confessions of a Hitler Youth (video).  Together create your own list for the following:            20 minutes
  • Why would people follow the Nazis and Hitler?
  • Why would the Nazis target Jewish people?

4. With your group: Discuss thematic statements you could develop about the Holocaust thus far. Write them in your thematic statement document. Write evidence from our study that helps prove all the thematic statements thus far are true.              15 minutes

5. Wait for whole class discussion.              5 minutes

6. By yourself, write your name on the back of a sticky note and list responses to the following on the front of the sticky note:               5 minutes
  • at least two reasons why people would follow the Nazis and Hitler. (Draw a line to separate these from the response to below.)
  • at least two reason why the Nazis would target Jewish people.
