  • develop your understanding of what happens in your brain during the learning process.
  • process why working hard and making sure you are engaged with learning is beneficial to your intelligence

Why?
  • To better understand that you need to be consistently engaged - even when class is difficult or boring - in order to strengthen how your brain works (which will make future learning easier).

1 With another near you, discuss - in your own words - why you are in social studies today (see above). 2 minutes

2.
3 minutes On your scrap paper, respond as to whether or not you agree to the following and then explain why you think that:
You are born with being however smart or dumb you are. (This is not saying whether or not you can learn.)

3. In a moment, we will watch this video together:  https://youtu.be/BEwg8TeipfQ   3 minutes

4.  Class discussion:  What are important points the video makes?   5 minutes

5.  Directions for paired reading:  One person reads the 1st paragraph aloud; the other person reads the next paragraph aloud.  You continue alternate reading paragraphs aloud.  As you are reading each chunk, keep the focus in mind.    20 minutes

6.  Revisit the prompt from the start of class.    7 minutes
