  • develop your understanding of the world.
  • associate words with key ideas about standard of living.
  • analyze data to determine a country's standard of living.
Why?
  • To better understand the world around you.
  • To become more flexible in your thinking and writing.
  • To develop your vocabulary.
  • To develop your critical thinking.
  • To develop your mental map of the world.

1 With another near you, discuss why you are in social studies today (see above). 2 minutes

I will be sending a few people around at a time to look at pictures and to discuss standard of living.

2.  Finish drawing and labeling your map of Europe - all countries and major bodies of water.  10 minutes

3.  Draw and label a map of Africa - include all countries and major water features.  30 minutes

Parents
You could ask your child the following:
  • What are some of the countries in Europe?  In Africa?
  • What do wealth, health, education, infrastructure, and leisure time show about standard of living?
