NOTE: Links to Google Classroom, Google Docs, or other Google Apps for Education will require students to log in to their school account.

NOTE: Due to the drop period in our schedule, there are times that your student might be working on a previous day's agenda. That will be noted at the top of the post.

11/15 Commenting on Blog Posts; Defending a Claim

D Period
A, B Period
  • Whenever you need help, please ask for it.
  • Please write your homework in your assignment book.
  • Please review the goal and agenda for the day (posted in the classroom).

Today in class you will
  • Orally present an argument using a claim with reasons and supporting evidence.
  • Reflect on the five themes of geography.

Why?
  • To deepen your understanding of the five themes of geography.
  • To practice speaking skills.

DIRECTIONS
If you are ever waiting for a direction, please use PlaceSpotting or Google A Day. (Don't search for the question or use a Google A Day answer site.)

1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).       1 minute
2. Put the finishing touches on the graphic organizer you used to develop your claim.         5 minutes
2. Practice making your argument aloud by referring to the graphic organizer you used to develop your claim. Do this twice.         7 minutes
3.  Review the document in your social studies folder about commenting on people's blog posts. (from 11/6)

4.  Finish the graphic organizer you were working on for constructing a comment. Have another check it to make sure it is an academic comment as opposed to a social comment.

Otherwise, make a copy of the document linked here and move it to your social studies folder using the folder icon next to the title and construct another comment for another blog.  Have another check it to make sure it is an academic comment as opposed to a social comment.

Make academic comments on at least three blogs.           30 minutes

5.  In the Google Classroom About section, work on the Extension activity News 5 Themes. ( If you had already started the other extension activity, you can finish that first. )       20 minutes
