1. Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above). 1 minute

2. With the same people as last class, finish working with the primary source excerpts...... 20 minutes
- (you are not writing yet) Read the excerpt aloud
- (you are not writing yet) Discuss what the excerpt is saying/meaning
- By yourself, write your own words to show what the primary source excerpt is saying/meaning. Your words would not be the same as anyone else's at your table.
Ask for help when needed, especially with words or ideas that you do not know.
3. By yourself, put a star next to the two excerpts that you agree with most.
4. Supporting a claim with evidence 20 minutes
- Take the double sided sheet from the counter near the windows.
- By yourself, determine your claim for the prompt based on your work with the primary source excerpts.
- By yourself, provide an explanation of what the excerpt means or of what the excerpt is saying.
- By yourself, provide an explanation as to how the excerpt supports your claim and relates to your claim.
- Turn in the work with your name by the end of class even if you are not yet finished.
