2/11 Summary Excerpts; Analyzing Primary Sources

  • Whenever you need help, please ask for it.
  • Please write your homework in your assignment book.
  • Please review the goal and agenda for the day (posted in the classroom).

Today in class you will

  • analyze statements from summaries
  • collect images about Ancient Chinese history topics

Why?
  • to deepen your understanding of other people
  • to become better writers
  • to practice finding free-t0-use images
  • to practice citing sources

DIRECTIONS    If you are waiting at any point, work with the Waiting Activities listed in the right-hand column of this page.

1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).       1 minute

2.   Review these statements from student summaries.  Jot notes on paper or scrap paper doc as to how they might be improved?                  15 minutes 

3.  Whole class discussion.                  10 minutes 

4.  In Google Classroom, under Ancient China, complete the Ancient China Photo Essay.                  20 minutes

1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).       1 minute

2.   With those at your table you will......                    25 minutes 
  1. (you are not writing yet) Read the excerpt aloud
  2. (you are not writing yet) Discuss what the excerpt is saying/meaning
  3. By yourself, write your own words to show what the primary source excerpt is saying/meaning.  Your words would not be the same as anyone else's at your table.
Each person, take the two sheets from the counter near the window to complete the task above. 
Ask for help when needed.
