NOTE: Links to Google Classroom, Google Docs, or other Google Apps for Education will require students to log in to their school account.

NOTE: Due to the drop period in our schedule, there are times that your student might be working on a previous day's agenda. That will be noted at the top of the post.

  • begin to understand how climate, physical features, and natural resources influence settlement and economics.

Why?
  • To notice patterns in the world.
  • To better understand why cities developed where they are.
  • To better understand the connection between geography and people.

1 With another near you, discuss - in your own words - why you are in social studies today (see above). 2 minutes

2. Discuss with someone near you the difference between climate and weather. 1 minutes

3.  By yourself:  Do a Google search for "climate types."  List what you find out about different climate types. I'll tell you when time is up.  5 minutes

4.  Classify climate types and create a symbol for each - as a group; then review with class. I'll tell you when time is up. 15 minutes

5.  Make a copy of the document linked here.

6.  With your group 15 minutes
  1. define important vocabulary using the table on the second page
  2. determine and write a main idea for each section:  physical features, climate, natural resources
7.  Draw it out:  By your self draw and color a scene that gets across the main points - with specific examples - about physical features, climate, and natural resources. 15 minutes

Parents: Don't Ask Your Child, "What Did You Do in School Today?"

Instead, you could ask your child the following:
  • What is the difference between climate and weather?
  • What are different climate types and what are they like?
