4/27 - 5/3 Argument Writing

Whenever you need help, please ask for it.

Please write your homework in your assignment book.
Please review the goal and agenda for the day (posted in the classroom).

Today in class you will 

• to understand how climate, physical features, and natural resources influence settlement and economics in  the Amazon.
• to identify pros and cons regarding "land use" and "sustainable development" in the Amazon.
• to make and support a claim -through writing - about how the Amazonian resources should be used to best benefit various Amazonian groups.

Why?

• To notice patterns in the world.
• To better understand how people adapt to living in a rainforest region.
• To better understand how people use natural resources.
• To better understand the connection between geography and people.
• To become better thinkers.
• To practice writing.

1.  With another near you, discuss - in your own words - why you are in social studies today (see above). 2 minutes

NOTE: Whenever you are waiting for Mr.d'E or others so you can complete a next step, appropriately comment on other students blogs: Give a compliment; respond to something specific (what did it make you think, do you agree/disagree - why), extend the conversation (add a relevant question; share what other ideas came to your mind as you read the post); do NOT critique their writing/thoughts. You may ALSO reply appropriately to comments left on your blog posts.

For the next several days in class you will be working on a an argument writing piece. You should easily be able to work at the pace I have set and meet the deadlines within the writing process.

2.  Go to Google Classroom. Complete #1 Amazon Argument Writing Graphic Organizer.   1 class period

3.  Go to Google Classroom. Complete #2 Amazon Argument Writing Draft to create a draft of argument writing that supports a claim. Refer to the top down organizer on the back board for the structure.    1 class period

If you are waiting for someone to complete the next step, work with your Amazon sketchnote.

4.  Go to Google Classroom. Complete #3 Amazon Argument Writing Peer Feedback w/ assigned partner.   1/2 class period

5.  Go to Google Classroom. Complete #4 Amazon Argument Writing Revisions.   1 1/2 class periods
