4/24 Book Discussion

Reminders
  • Whenever you need help, please ask for it.
  • Please write your homework in your assignment book.
  • Please review the goal and agenda for the day (posted in the classroom).


Today in class you will
  • Discuss your chosen book.
Why?
  • To develop your reading and discussion skills
  • To develop your understanding of geography.


DIRECTIONS
If you are ever waiting for a direction, please use PlaceSpotting or Google A Day. (Don't search for the question or use a Google A Day answer site.)
1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).       1 minute
2.  One member of your book group make a copy of the document linked here. Move it to the social studies folder using the folder icon next to its name. Share it with the others in your book group.         2 minutes

3.  Follow the direction in the document. You will be working by yourself within the same documents.  Refer to your book, and ask for clarification when needed        30 minutes

4.  When finished with all parts, discuss your work with the members of your group. (3 minutes per part)         12 minutes

6.  Discuss as a group         10 minutes
  • What evidence of the five themes of geography is in the book?  
  • What are examples of human geography and / or physical geography in the book? Share and discuss your powerful quotes. 
  • What a new understanding you have about your book that you didn't realize until now.

7.  Whole class discussion.          5 minutes



Parents: Instead of Asking Your Child, 
"What Did You Do in School Today?"
Ask them.......
  • How was human and / or physical geography shown in the book you read?
