DIRECTIONS
1. Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above). 1 minute
2. Choose a place from the table in your scrap paper doc. Under the table, write an explanation paragraph that addresses the following about that location: How does physical geography (climate, natural resources, physical features) impact human geography (population, economic activity)? 15 minutes
3. Wait for the teacher to direct you to share. You will share your writing out loud with another person. You will do this twice. 5 minutes
4. Use Geography Alive maps to find a place with the following characteristics and add it to your table: 10 minutes
- low population density
- tropical climate
- forestry
- river
- identify the river by name
- add other physical features and natural resources based on the map
5. Use Geography Alive maps to find another place with the following characteristics and add it to your table: 10 minutes
- high population density
- tropical climate
- fertile soil = commercial farming
- trade corridors/arteries
- identify the trade corridors/arteries by name
- add other physical features and natural resources based on the map
6. Share with people at your table. 5 minutes
7. Draw/trace a map of one of the new locations you added to the table. (Do not trace on the computer screen.) Meet the following requirements:
- Your country/place should fill most of the paper.
- Indicate where bordering countries are by having them partially on the map.
- include physical features by name
- map a key to indicate natural resources. Draw symbols for natural resources on the map.
- color the map
- be as neat as you can, but it won't be perfect

5. Open your resources about argument writing (rubric, examples, practice revisions, feedback, etc.). Review them, and reflect on them along with what you have been doing in ELA. Ask me questions. 10 minutes
6. Revise your weakest area of writing: introduction, 1 body paragraph, OR conclusion 20 minutes
