  • compare and analyze the continents' population

Why?
  • To notice patterns in the world.
  • To better understand the connection between geography and people.

1 With another near you, discuss - in your own words - why you are in social studies today (see above). 2 minutes

2.  By yourself, without resources, and on paper, quickly sketch a circle for each continent based on what you think the continent's population is relative to the other continents. (Do NOT use resources.) You are drawing 7 circles - one for each continent - to show how big the population is.  Label each circle with the continent name it represents.  3 minutesMr.d'E will tell you when to continue to the next direction.

3.  Follow the directions on the sheets that you are given. Help each other out.  30 minutes

4.  Share with the class.  10 minutes

Parents: Don't Ask Your Child, "What Did You Do in School Today?"

Instead, you could ask your child the following:
  • What surprised you most about the population in the world?
  • How did seeing the population circles help you better understand the world?
