1 With another near you, discuss - in your own words - why you are in social studies today (see above). 2 minutes

2.  Review your settlement document.  5 minutes

3.  Use the assigned map ONLY to complete the initial directions on the sheet you get from Mr.d'E to determine the best place for a settlement.  12 minutes

4.  With your group, determine the best place for a settlement - make sure what you are saying is there is actually there, not hundreds of miles away.  10 minutes

4.  Share with the class when asked to. (You may start your paragraph if you are done and waiting.)  15 minutes

Instead, you could ask your child the following: 
  • Explain what you did with your map today.
  • Explain what your group did with the three different maps today.
  • What was the most important or interesting thing you learned?
