Today in class you will

  • review key ideas about Ancient Rome's Republic.
  • further develop your understanding of government types 
  • compare the US government to Ancient Rome's

DIRECTIONS    If you are waiting at any point, work with the Waiting Activities listed in the right-hand column of this page.

1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).       1 minute

2.  Take a piece of paper from the back desk.  Without using any resources and by yourself, make a graphic organizer to show the structure of the Roman Republic's government. Try to include characteristics and responsibilities of each part as well.  (I don't expect these to come out so great.)                5 minutes

3.   Add to your graphic organizer with the information Mr.d'E gives you.                5 minutes

4.    Whole class: discussion                10 minutes

5.   On the other side of your paper:  Without using any resources and by yourself, make a graphic organizer to show the structure of the United States federal government. Try to include characteristics and responsibilities of each part as well.  (I don't expect these to come out so great.)                5 minutes

6.    Add to your graphic organizer with the information Mr.d'E gives you.                5 minutes
