  • examine the UN sustainable development goals.
  • brainstorm solutions to problems.

    Why?
    • To begin understanding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
    • To build your sense of empowerment.

    1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).   1 minute

    2.  The three major things the SDGs want to accomplish are ending extreme poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, and sustaining both the Earth and everyone's wealth. Choose one of the three and brainstorm on your scrap paper doc what countries might struggle with to achieve it.            2 minutes

    3.  Scroll to the bottom of the following link: http://www.globalgoals.org/, read through the list of goals, and list the 5 you think are the most important on your scrap paper.          5 minutes

    4. Please wait. Class share.          10 minutes

    5.  Find out about your UN SDG. Use the previous link and/or the document linked here to find information that answers the questions below. Appropriately cite your sources - you'll have at least two including links provided.          15 minutes
    • What is the main point of the goal?
    • What are at least four key things countries need to overcome or the goal aims to achieve?
    • Identify a country struggling with this goal.
    • How is that country struggling? Explain.

    6.  Investigate a second UN SDG of your choice.

    7.  Please wait. Class share.           10 minutes
