  •  assess countries' standard of living.

Why?
  • To develop your understanding of standard of living.
  • To become more understanding of others.
  • To develop your critical thinking.

1.  Discuss with someone near you what you will be doing in class today and why (see above).   1 minute

2.  Assessing the factors influencing standard of living: high, medium, low. For each factor, analyze the picture with your group. Indicate why you are assessing it that way for each factor by making judgments about wealth, health, education, infrastructure, & leisure time. Use the questions below to guide you.             10 minutes
  • What is the wealth like (high, medium, low)? Why do you say that?
  • What is the health like (high, medium, low)? Why do you say that?
  • What is the education like (high, medium, low)? Why do you say that?
  • What is the infrastructure like (high, medium, low)? Why do you say that?
  • What is the leisure time like (high, medium, low)? Why do you say that?
3. Whole class share.              20 minutes

4. With your group, discuss and write down about each of the five factors in relation to the following question. What data can show about a country's standard of living (wealth, health, education, infrastructure, leisure time)?              5 minutes

5. Whole class share.               10 minutes

Parents: Instead of Asking Your Child,
"What Did You Do in School Today?"
Ask them.......
  • What data can you use to analyze a country's standard of living?
  • Explain to me about each of the five factors that influences standard of living?
